Accomplished Greek women embrace Islam. Have they lost their mind?

Find out yourself. Below is a translation summary of an interesting article about Muslim women published by the Greek newspaper “Eleftherotypia” on November 22, 2008 about Greek women who chose to wear the hijab.

Two Greek Muslim women were interviewed, the first was a 25 year old computer teacher, who reverted at her 22 by her personal inner search, she had to leave the small town she lived in to move to Athens to have access to the Islamic community. Today she works at an airway company, her boss is an Arab, and her feeling is that under the hijab all women have a lot in common. Her family reacted negatively, telling her that “you are no longer a Greek” but in time they have learned at least to accept the fact of her choice.

The second woman, 42, accepted Islam at 35 years old, is a midwife and teaches her profession at a technical high school in Athens. She reverted by reading the Qur’an and states that she would not like to marry an Arab because she is not fond of them and, anyway, they are just the one quarter of the Muslim population.  She understands the reasons for polygamy in Islam.

Ασπάστηκα το Ισλάμ

Ali, a former Greek Orthodox Christian from Greece who’s former name was Giorgios, takes us through his journey of how he embraced Islam.  Unlike our other journeys posted in our Greek converts page, Br. Ali started off in Komotini and learned the Turkish language just to read about Islam! 

(That just reinforces the fact that we are in dire need of getting Islamic books translated to Greek. )

I’m sure some people might not like what he has to say in his story, but it is his truth that has been verified by those who know him.

 

 

Ειρήνη και ευλογία σε όλους.

Ασπάστηκα το Ισλάμ πριν τέσσερα χρόνια στην Κομοτηνή. Το μελετούσα από πολύ μικρός, από τότε που ήμουνα δώδεκα χρονών άρχισα τυχαία να ακούω αραβικά και τουρκικά τραγούδια (τώρα πλέον δεν ακούω ποπ και κάποιου άλλου είδους μοντέρνας μουσικής γιατί αυτού του είδους η μουσική απαγορεύται στο Ισλάμ σε αντίθεση με τη θρησκευτική μουσική ή με τα τραγούδια που μιλάνε για την αγάπη που πρέπει να δείχνουν οι άνθρωποι προς τη φύση, την αγάπη που πρέπει να έχουν ο ένας προς τον άλλο κ.τ.λ, τραγούδια που επιτρέπονται), μετά σιγά σιγά άρχισα να διαβάζω βιβλία σχετικά με τη λογοτεχνία διάφορων ανατολικών χωρών (κυρίως αραβική, τουρκική και περσική λογοτεχνία). Αργότερα διάβασα σχετικά και για το Ισλάμ και αγόρασα και το Κοράνι σε μετάφραση (τη μετάφραση κάποιας Μιλίλη απ’τις εκδώσεις ΚΑΚΤΟΣ-χάλια μετάφραση) και όταν το διάβασα, έμεινα έκθαμβος (ένιωσα ότι το Κοράνι μιλούσε στην ψυχή μου- το διάβαζα και ήθελα να κλαίω).

Ταυτόχρονα διάβαζα και χριστιανικά βιβλία (φιλοκαλία, νηπτικά, βίους Αγίων αλλά και το ευαγγέλιο το οποίο με άφηνε παγερά αδιάφορο-εκτός απ’τους μακαρισμούς και κάποιες εντολές του χριστού) και πήγαινα με τη μητέρα μου σε διάφορα μοναστήρια και εκκλησίες. Η μητέρα μου έβλεπε ότι κατευθυνόμουνα σταθερά προς το Ισλάμ και αγαπούσα οτιδήποτε ισλαμικό. Έμαθα ολομόναχος τουρκικά για να μπορώ να διαβάζω ισλαμικά βιβλία αν και εμπιστεύομαι πολύ περισσότερο βιβλία απ’τη Σαουδική Αραβία και την Αίγυπτο (υπάρχουν πάρα πολλοί σωστοί ιμάμηδες και μουσουλμάνοι σχολάρχες στην Τουρκία αλλά υπάρχουν και πολλοί σούφι και άλλοι αιρετικοί τους οποίους δεν εμπιστεύομαι). Έμαθα τουρκικά ολομόναχος μέσα σε έναν χρόνο και σήμερα έχω δύο πτυχία στα τουρκικά επιπέδου lower ενώ έχω πάει μέχρι σήμερα 26 φορές στην Τουρκία και συνεχίζω να πηγαίνω (άλλες φορές πηγαίνω μόνος μου σε φίλους και άλλες φορές πηγαίνω με τουριστικά γκρουπ, καθώς έμαθα τα μέρη εκεί και ειδικά την Κων/πολη και δουλεύω σαν συνοδός-ξεναγός).

Να διευκρινίσω βέβαια ότι όποιος γίνεται μουσουλμάνος, δε σημαίνει ότι γίνεται Τούρκος. Μουσουλμάνοι δεν είναι μόνο οι Τούρκοι αλλά ούτε μόνο οι Άραβες (οι οποίοι είναι περίπου 25-30% των μουσουλμάνων). Το Ισλάμ είναι οικουμενική θρησκεία και αγκαλιάζει όλoυς τους ανθρώπους ανεξαρτήτως φυλής, χρώματος, καταγωγής κ.τ.λ.

Στο Ιερό Κοράνι λέγεται: “Ω εσείς οι άνθρωποι. Σας πλάσαμε από έναν άντρα και από μία γυναίκα και σας κάναμε λαούς, έθνη και φυλές για να αναγνωρίζετε ο ένας τον άλλο. Βέβαια ο πιο τιμημένος από σας στα ~μάτια~ του ΑΛΛΑΧ (Θεού) είναι ο πιο ενάρετος…” (Κοράνι, 49:13).

Οι ενάρετοι λοιπόν είναι αυτοί που είναι ανώτεροι στα “μάτια” του Θεού και όχι οι άσπροι ή οι μαύροι ή οι κίτρινοι ή αυτοί που ανήκουν σε οποιαδήποτε φυλή κ.τ.λ.

Ο προφήτης Μουχάμμεντ (η ευλογία και η ειρήνη του ΑΛΛΑΧ σ’αυτόν) είπε: ” Ένας Άραβας δεν είναι ανώτερος από έναν μη Άραβα και ένας μη Άραβας δεν είναι ανώτερος από έναν Άραβα” ενώ όταν κάποιος απ’τους σαχάμπα (ακολούθους-μαθητές) του προφήτη έβρισε έναν νέγρο και τον κορόϊδεψε για το χρώμα του, ο προφήτης τον μάλωσε και του είπε: “Δεν έχεις το δικαίωμα να τον βρίζεις. Όταν ο Θεός δημιούργησε τον κόσμο, μοίρασε το 80% του θάρους στους νέγρους”.

Έμαθα να διαβάζω αραβικά για να διαβάζω το Ιερό Κοράνι στη γλώσσα στην οποία αποκαλήφτηκε, νήστευα στο Ραμαντάν και έκανα και κάνω την ημέρα 5 φορές σαλά (προσευχή). Άφησα γενειάδα, σταμάτησα να πηγαίνω σε νυχτερινά κλαμπ, σταμάτησα να τρόω χοιρινό και να πίνω αλκοόλ κ.τ.λ.
 
Ταυτόχρονα, πάρα πολύ με βοήθησε το ότι πέρασα στο τμήμα ιστορίας-εθνολογίας του Δημοκρίτιου πανεπιστημίου Θράκης στην Κομοτηνή (αν και πολύ λίγοι άνθρωποι εκεί εφαρμώζουν σωστά το Ισλάμ χωρίς να εφαρμώζουν και διάφορα αιρετικά στοιχεία) και θα πρέπει να διευκρινήσω ότι δεν με προσυλήτησε κανείς αλλά η επιλογή αυτή ήταν απόλυτα δικιά μου.

Σκεφτόμουνα το εξής “το Ισλάμ είναι στη φίτρα (φυσική κατάσταση στην οποία γεννιέται ο άνθρωπος) του ανθρώπου και όλοι οι άνθρωποι ειτε χριστιανοί, είτε εβραίοι, είτε αλλόθρησκοι, είναι στην πραγματικότητα μουσουλμάνοι και δεν το ξέρουν (μουσουλμάνος όπως ξέρεις σημαίνει “υποταγμένος” και άρα όλοι οι άνθρωποι είναι μουσουλμάνοι, εφόσον όλοι υπόκεινται και είναι υποταγμένοι σους νόμους της φύσης, τους οποίους όμως νόμους τους έθεσε ο ίδιος ο Θεός).

Για παράδειγμα οι περισσότεροι άνθρωποι γεννιούνται μωρά και πεθαίνουν σε μεγάλη ηλικία. Ρωτάω, μπορεί ένας άνθρωπος να γεννηθεί παππούς και να πεθάνει βρέφος? Απαντάω κιόλας ότι αυτό δε μπορεί να γίνει γιατί πολύ απλά υπάρχουν κάποιοι απαράγραπτοι φυσικοί νόμοι και όλοι οι άνθρωποι είμαστε υποταγμένοι στους νόμους αυτούς (άρα όλοι οι άνθρωποι είμαστε μουσουλμάνοι, εφόσον όλοι αυτοί οι νόμοι της φύσης έχουν τοποθετηθεί απ’τον ίδιο τον Θεό που σημαίνει ότι εφόσον υποταγμένοι στη φύση, ταυτόχρονα υποταγμένοι στον Θεό- δηλαδή μουσουλμάνοι).

Ο προφήτης Μουχάμμεντ (η ευλογία και η ειρήνη του ΑΛΛΑΧ σ’αυτόν) είπε: “Κάθε άνθρωπος γεννιέται στη φίτρα. Είναι οι γονείς του παιδιού που το κάνουν εβραίο ή χριστιανό μετά τη γέννηση του”.

Άρα όντως το Ισλάμ είναι η μόνη φυσική θρησκεία, είναι η μόνη θρησκεία που θα μπορούσαμε να πούμε oτι είναι στη φίτρα (φυσική κατάσταση του ανθρώπου) και μάλιστα θα μπορούσαμε να πούμε ότι δεν είναι καν θρησκεία αλλά ένα ολόκληρο σύστημα ζωής (και όχι μια απλή θρησκεία εντολών που αφορούν μόνο τα πνευματικά όπως ο χριστιανισμός) που απαντάει σε όλα τα ζητήματα της καθημερινής μας ζωής (μια θρησκεία ευλογημένη-η αληθινή θρησκεία η οποία έχει δώσει δικαιώματα στις γυναίκες και σε όλους τους ανθρώπους, χίλια τετρακόσια χρόνια προτού ο λεγόμενος χριστιανικός κόσμος δώσει ή εφεύρει το παραμικρό δικαίωμα).

Στην Ελλάδα συνηθίζουν οι συμπατριώτες μας ‘Ελληνες να αναφέρουν διάφορες ιστορίες με θαύματα (ότι εικόνες δακρύσανε, ότι άγιοι εμφανιστήκανε ξαφνικά κ.τ.λ.). Εγώ σέβομαι την ευσέβεια και την πίστη των συμπατριωτών μου αλλά σ’αυτά τα θέματα έχω κάποιες αντιρήσεις διότι παρόμοιες ιστορίες έχω ακούσει και από άτομα τα οποία προέρχονται από άλλα θρησκεύματα, τα οποία αυτά άτομα ισχυρίζονταν ότι και στις δικές τους θρησκείες συμβαίνουν θαύματα. Άρα λοιπόν δεν πρέπει να αμφισβητούμε το γεγονός ότι γίνονται θαύματα αλλά δεν πρέπει να βασιζόμαστε απολειστικά σ’αυτά. Ο ιμάμης και μεγάλος φακίχ (νομοθέτης) του Ισλάμ Μουχάμμεντ ιμπν Ιντρίς αλ Σάφιι είπε: “Αν δείτε κάποιον να κάνει θαύματα, ακόμα και αν περπατάει πάνω στο νερό, μη τον πιστέψετε. Πρώτα να μάθετε αν είναι ακόλουθος του προφήτη Μουχάμμεντ”.

Εγώ λοιπόν βλέπω το πραγματικό και μεγαλύτερο θαύμα (δηλαδή το ίδιο το Ισλάμ) το οποίο εδώ και 1400 χρόνια προστατεύει εμένα και όλους τους ανθρώπους και τους προστατεύει στην πράξη και όχι στα λόγια. Το Ισλάμ είναι και θρησκεία και πολιτική και σύστημα ζωής και σύνταγμα και τα πάντα- πράγμα που ο χριστιανισμός δεν το κάνει εφόσον ναι μεν λέει στους ανθρώπους να αγαπάνε ο ένας τον άλλο αλλά ταυτόχρονα δε λαμβάνει κανένα νομικό ή άλλης μορφής μέτρο για να προστατεύσει τους αδύνατους, τους φτωχούς, τις χήρες αλλά δίνει μόνο απλές εντολές και τίποτα άλλο (να διευκρινίσω ωστόσο ότι σέβομαι το δικαίωμα των χριστιανών να είναι χριστιανοί και το δικαίωμα οποιουδήποτε να πιστεύει σε οποιαδήποτε θρησκεία θέλει).

Λέγεται στο Ιερό Κοράνι: “Στη θρησκεία δεν υπάρχει καταναγκασμός επειδή η αλήθεια έχει ξεχωριστεί ολοφάνερα απ’την πλάνη.” (Κοράνι, 2:256)

Στη θρκσκεία λοιπόν δεν υπάρχει καταναγκασμός. Καθήκον του μουσουλμάνου είναι μόνο η ντάουα (πρόσκληση) προς το Ισλάμ αλλά πώς πρέπει να γίνεται αυτή? Με αγάπη, με καλοσύνη, με υπομονή, με ευσέβεια, με ειλικρίνια και με όλα αυτά τα χαρακτηρηστικά που πρέπει να έχει κάθε σωστός μουσουλμάνος. Με τον καλύτερο τρόπο.

Λέγεται στο Ιερό Κοράνι: “Προσκάλεσε όλους στη θρησκεία του Κυρίου σου με σοφία και με όμορφο κύρηγμα και προσπάθησε να τους πείσεις με τον καλύτερο τρόπο και τον πιο ευγενικό.” (Κοράνι, 16:125)

Αυτό είναι το Ισλάμ που εγώ και εκατομύρια άνθρωποι σ’αυτόν τον πλανήτη αγαπήσαμε και πιστέψαμε.

Ας σαλάμου αλέϊκουμ ουά ραχματουλλάχι ουά μπαρακάτου
(ειρήνη σε σας και το έλεος του Θεού και η ευλογία Του).

As you already know our Committee is supporting the orphan children of Palestine, using a sponsoring program, providing the ability to more suffering orphans a better living, the right to dream.

U.S. treasury taps into Islamic finance

Since when did Islamic finance get connected with terrorism?  Next thing you know, we’ll open up a newspaper tomorrow that links halal meat to terrorism.  Anything’s possible these days with Islamophobics running around trying to scare the masses of hollow claims.

The article, U.S. Treasury teaches “Islamic Finance 101″ was a bitter-sweet experience for me.   On the one hand, it’s a positive step in the right direction.  But on the other, the article presented some serious false statements about the tenets of Islamic law that any knowledgeable person about Islam would be able to detect easily.

People just use scare tactics when they are ignorant.

You gotta wonder why the U.S. Treasury wants to teach Islamic Finance in the first place.  Isn’t THAT what the main point is here? People follow systems that are proven to be successful, and what’s so successful about Islamic Finance? 

 

Here are some key rules:

1. No interest or usury allowed [1]

     Benefit: Bridge the gap between the rich and poor.

2. Ethical products and services only [2]

     Benefit: Become socially responsible.

3.  You must have gold in your possession before selling it [3]

     Benefit: Stop inflation of the dollar.

What these principles do is put more importance to ethical business trading and the value of a dollar.  Otherwise, you have the rich compounding their money every second without working hard for it while the average person is working 14 hours per day making chump change.

To some extent, you will always have rich and poor and that’s normal.  But with systems in place like zakat, obligatory alms charity, income redistribution is secured and everyone’s happy — and peaceful.

Some people will argue that this is economic suicide – I say trust in God’s plan over man’s plan.  Isn’t this how we got into the financial crisis to begin with?

Sex-athon gone wrong

I heard of fast-athon, but sex-athon? And it gets worse. It’s all happening at a church.  Their marketing pitch is ’seven straight days of sex for married couples’.

Well, I do agree with one thing – bringing back the education of marital relations within the context marriage but planting a bed on the pastor’s stage is a whole other dimension to the plan.

Marital relations, like all other aspects, has it’s place in life and religion.  Priests and Imams (mosque leaders) can take the initiative to educate others but how? Publicly endorsing a sex-athon? Embarrassing to say the least.

Let’s use Prophet Muhammad’s method (peace be upon him) of educating others instead.  There are many pieces of advice that we have and here is just one:

Narrated by Abu Dharr: “Some of the companions of the Prophet said to him: ‘O Messenger of Allaah, the affluent among us have taken the rewards (of the hereafter)! They pray as we pray, fast as we fast, and then they give charity from the surplus of their wealth!” The Prophet said: “Did Allaah not make for you that from which you can give sadaqa? Verily for every time you say Subhannallah (Exalted is Allah) there is a sadaqa, and for every time you say Allahuakbar (Allah is Most Great) there is a sadaqa, and for every time you say Al-Hamdulillah (Praise is to Allah) there is sadaqa, and in every act of enjoining what is right there is sadaqa, and in every act of forbidding what is wrong there is a sadaqa, and in your sexual relations there is a sadaqa.” The Companions said: “O Messenger of Allaah , is there a reward for one of us when he satisfies his sexual desire?” The Prophet said: “Don’t you see, if he had satisfied it with the forbidden, would there not have been a sin upon him?” They said: “Why, yes! He said: “In the same way, when he satisfies it with that which is lawful, there is for him in that a reward.”

Islam before Islam

I guess in some way it’s our fault. We didn’t clear up the misconception well enough. But it’s just not true. Islam didn’t begin in 600 AD with Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him); it began with the first man on earth, Prophet Adam (peace be upon him).

How can this possibly be? In order to understand it, you have to realize that the mantra that Muslims live by is:

La illaha illa Allah
There is no object worthy of worship except Allah*

Islam means to submit yourself wholeheartedly to this message.
Muslim means a person who submits himself wholeheartedly to this message.

In other words, our first prophet is Adam and our last prophet is Muhammad. In between, there around over one hundred thousand prophets that were sent to different times and nations that all carried the same message (above) and the same foundational laws (although minor laws were adjusted according to time and place). 

They were all Muslim, by definition.

When people started to corrupt the original message of God by introducing polytheistic ideas, a new prophet was sent by God to reinstate the original monotheistic message. Then the cycle would continue again.

There is absolutely no shred of paganism or polytheism in this pure, unaltered message.

And this is why the Quran and narrations of Prophet Muhammad are the only two sources on earth that have been proven to be preserved by God himself, in the original language. 

There is no other book on the planet that is exclusively 100% God’s words, without the tampering of man’s words infused in it.  This can and has been proven and this is why every human being on earth should follow the original, unaltered message from God.

Orthodox monks brawl in Jerusalem

Don’t worry, we won’t judge Christianity because of the mishaps of a few monks.

I just thought it was timely since we’ve been having some discussions lately about judging a religion based on the acts of its followers and how that’s not an accurate account to judging a religion.

JERUSALEM – Israeli police rushed into one of Christianity’s holiest churches Sunday and arrested two clergyman after an argument between monks erupted into a brawl next to the site of Jesus’ tomb.

The clash between Armenian and Greek Orthodox monks broke out in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, revered as the site of Jesus’ crucifixion, burial and resurrection.

The brawling began during a procession of Armenian clergymen commemorating the 4th-century discovery of the cross believed to have been used to crucify Jesus.

The Greeks objected to the march without one of their monks present, fearing that otherwise, the procession would subvert their own claim to the Edicule — the ancient structure built on what is believed to be the tomb of Jesus — and give the Armenians a claim to the site.

The Armenians refused, and when they tried to march the Greek Orthodox monks blocked their way, sparking the brawl.
