The title “the first halal* restaurant in Athens” may seem something ordinary for the residents of the large cities of the world. But for us it is something to be proud of.

The first halal restaurant is now open in Halandri. The name is Anahita and has Persian cuisine, which is so delicious and compatible with the local tastes.

The environment is very refreshing, has open roof for the summer nights, running water and the decoration is inspired of the Persian art and tradition, old and contemporary.

In the lobby of the restaurant you can see fine art pieces from pottery, paintings, drawing in leather, calligraphy

There is a huge variety of dishes, all meat that contained is halal and you can taste a collection of non-alcoholic beers with several fruit tastes beside the ordinary beverages.

The environment really attracts anyone who wants to taste traditional dishes from Iran and taste the fresh Iranian bread that is made in a traditional oven in front of your eyes.

Beyond that, the fact that people that eat halal are able to go and dine in Athens without any concern is a relieving fact. Many people avoid to eat meat out of their house, and many have been tricked by restaurant owners that add pork ingredients in the beef because it is cheaper, advertising the opposite. So the first halal restaurant in Athens is something you should definitely try.

*Halal means permissible and  in this case refers to the meat that is slaughtered in the permissible way, draining all blood well, and also refers to the drinks that do not contain alcohol.

Completely different to the belief, the one we are losing day by day or with the one that is going to almost change by the government’s strict financial policy ( regardless those that are going to follow!). This is the religious belief of Muslims, which seems to gain more and more believers among the Greek Orthodox Christians that is us. Few years ago, we could not even think about it, but modern reality is completely different. We are talking about thousands of our fellow countrymen who have as adults convert with a full consciousness in Islam.

As for how many thousands are exactly, the numbers are vague as the vast majority of the converted Greeks prefer to keep hidden their conversion and their preference to Allah. Though it is certain, that most of the former Christian Orthodox Greeks lives beyond our country’s national borders, in America, in Europe, in Africa up to the land of Far East. But not to confuse ourselves, the Muslim legal or illegal immigrants who live in Greece temporarily or permanently, as well as the Muslim minority, who live close to our Northern borders, is a whole different story.

The very first demographic “disclosures” about the Greek believers of Allah happened approximately two years ago. May I remind you an excellent research article by Stella Kasdagli at “Pontiki” (4.12.2008) with plenty of informative material of the Internet (www.greeksrethink.com, www.greekmuslim.wordpress.com), interviews both named and unnamed about the suspicion, the fears of the Greek society, up to the hiding from their families. For example, Iman Sotiria Kouvalis, Muslim since 2000 and founder of the previously referred blog, refers an example of a parent’s reaction: “Oh my God!!  You became a Turk! It would be better if you were telling me that you are pregnant or a drug addict”.

So to conclude: “Jamilah Kolocotronis, author and lecturer in Islamic schools, originates (as she states in her curriculum vitae) from the family of Theodoros Kolocotronis, grew up at the United Sates of America with the stories of her grandfather about the Greek revoluti0on of 1821 against the Turks. “ When I went to college, I started learning about Islam. I was though, still carrying inside me the suspicion against the Muslim Turks, the people that my ancestor fought for the Greek Independence. It took me four years to convert to Islam. One of the reasons, I think, is that I could not take this decision and talk to my grandfather about it. He died in 1979, and I became a Muslim in 1980.”

το σχετικό βραβείο από το Ευρωπαϊκό Δίκτυο Μουσουλμάνων Επιχειρηματιών (CΕDΑR), το οποίο υποστηρίζεται από το διάσημο Ινστιτούτο Στρατηγικού Διαλόγου, γνωστότερο και ως η «Λέσχη των Τριών». Η απονομή του βραβείου, η οποία πραγματοποιήθηκε πριν από τρεις εβδομάδες στη
Μαδρίτη, αποτελεί ένα σημαντικό βήμα στο να αποκτήσει η Ελλάδα φωνή στον- διευρυνόμενης επιρροής- αναπτυσσόμενο κύκλο των μουσουλμάνων της Ευρώπης, τη σημασία των οποίων επισημαίνουν επί σειρά ετών αναλυτές των διεθνών σχέσεων στη χώρα μας.

Η κυρία Στάμου μιλάει για το μεγάλο θέμα των ημερών που απασχολεί χιλιάδες έλληνες και αλλοδαπούς μουσουλμάνους, δηλαδή τη δημιουργία τεμένους και κοιμητηρίου στην πρωτεύουσα. «Εμείς είχαμε εισηγηθεί να δημιουργηθεί μια υποδομήαπλή,λειτουργική και αισθητικά συμβατή με τον προτεινόμενο χώρο. Δεν ονειρευόμαστε πολυτέλειεςπαρά έναν λειτουργικό χώρο προσευχής», ενώ κατακρίνει το νεοπαγές φαινόμενο της ισλαμοφοβίας στην Ελλάδα, χαρακτηρίζοντάς το παροδικό και εφήμερης κατανάλωσης. «Παλαιά ήταν οι κομμουνιστές και σήμερα οι μουσουλμάνοι.Σε λίγο καιρόόμως δεν θα έχει υπόσταση και θα ξεχαστεί» τονίζει.

Επίσης επισημαίνει ότι δεν είναι μόνο η έλλειψη τεμένους, αλλά και η απουσία επίσημων θρησκευτικών λειτουργών του Ισλάμ στη χώρα μας. «Ο ιμάμης- όπως άλλωστε και ο παπάς και οι πνευματικοί δάσκαλοι- βοηθά με τις συμβουλές του άτομα ή ζευγάρια που αντιμετωπίζουν προβλήματα,αναζητούν ψυχολογική υποστήριξη ή βρίσκονται προ ηθικών διλημμάτων. Επίσηςέχουμε μεικτούς γάμους, με πολλές γυναίκες να αγνοούν τα δικαιώματά τους. Αυτό είναι ένα τραγικό κενό» σημειώνει. Οπως τονίζει, θεωρεί απαραίτητο να δημιουργηθούν οι απαραίτητες δομές με ελληνικά και όχι ξένα χρήματα. «Οποιος πληρώνει,έχει το πάνω χέρι.Εχουμε δει χώρες όπως η Ολλανδία και η Αγγλία να επιστρέφουν στον κρατικό έλεγχο» λέει.

Η κυρία Στάμου ασπάστηκε το Ισλάμ πριν από έξι χρόνια, καθώς βρήκε εκεί απαντήσεις για τις χρόνιες εσωτερικές αναζητήσεις της. «Η αναζήτησή μου ήταν μακροχρόνια, πάντοτε έψαχνα και πάντοτε είχα αναπάντητα ερωτήματα, όχι κατ΄ ανάγκη θεολογικής φύσης. Σε αυτή την αναζήτηση της αλήθειαςδεν μπορούσα να λάβω ικανοποιητικές απαντήσεις. Ετσιανέτρεξα σε διάφορες σχολές,ασχολήθηκα πολύ με τον Πυθαγόρα,μέσα από τον οποίο βρέθηκα στο Ισλάμ» τονίζει. Σε αυτή την αναζήτηση γνώρισε και τον νυν σύζυγό της, με τον οποίο εισήλθαν ως εθελοντές στους Γιατρούς του Κόσμου, κατά τη διάρκεια του πολέμου στο Ιράκ. Τότε ήταν που ήρθε σε πιο ουσιαστική επαφή με το Ισλάμ, στις διδαχές του οποίου άρχισε να εμβαθύνει. «Θεωρούσα από αυτά που μαθαίνουμε στο σχολείο ότι πρόκειται για μια υποδεέστερη και αμφίβολη θρησκεία. Το Ισλάμ όμως άρχισε να μου δίνει απαντήσεις.Είπα στον εαυτό μου ότι πρέπει να μάθω καλύτερα τι είναι αυτή η θρησκεία.Πολλές απορίες που είχα,ξεκίνησαν να λύνονται με μια απλότητα που… μου την έδινε στα νεύρα!» σημειώνει. Η κυρία Στάμου υπογραμμίζει ότι λόγω ιστορικών γεγονότων πολλοί στη χώρα μας συγχέουν τον μουσουλμανισμό με την Τουρκία, κάτι που, όπως λέει, είναι εσφαλμένο. «Είμαι τόσα χρόνια μουσουλμάνα και τη λέξη μπαϊράμι την έμαθα πέρυσι!Ποτέ δεν συνάντησα στον δρόμο μου την Τουρκία στην πορεία μου προς το Ισλάμ.Ο Ευρωπαίος που γίνεται μουσουλμάνοςδεν μαθαίνει από τους Τούρκους, αλλά από το αραβικό στοιχείο, ακολουθώντας τους άραβες δασκάλους» υπογραμμίζει . «Στην Ευρώπη όσοι προσχωρούν στο Ισλάμ τα μαθαίνουν από τα αγγλικά και τα γαλλικά.Ενώ υπάρχουν χιλιάδες έλληνες μουσουλμάνοι, απορώ γιατί δεν υπάρχουν βιβλία στα ελληνικά.Ευτυχώς,εμείς εκδώσαμε πέντε βιβλία» λέει.

Ακόμη επισημαίνει ότι η μετάβασή της από τον χριστιανισμό στο Ισλάμ συνοδεύθηκε από αποδοχή εκ μέρους της οικογένειας και των φίλων της. «Αρνητικές αντιδράσεις δεν συνάντησα. Κάποιοι μπορεί να είχαν απορίες ή και να μην τους άρεσε.Αλλά τι να έκανα;Αλλωστεούτε η γιόγκα τούς άρεσε!Κοινωνικά δεν άλλαξα,ούτε συμπεριφορά άλλαξα, απλά φόρεσα μαντίλι!» διηγείται.

Η κυρία Στάμου είναι 37 ετών και γεννήθηκε στην Αθήνα ακριβώς έναν μήνα μετά την εξέγερση του Πολυτεχνείου. «Η μητέρα μου, οκτώ μηνών έγκυος σ΄ εμένα, έβλεπε τα γεγονότα από την ταράτσα» διηγείται. Γέννημα θρέμμα Ηλιουπολίτισσα, σπούδασε οικονομικά και διοίκηση επιχειρήσεων, όμως ασχολήθηκε επαγγελματικά με τη διερμηνεία της νοηματικής γλώσσας, αλλά και με τη γιόγκα, την οποία εξακολουθεί να διδάσκει! Η βραβευθείσα Ελληνίδα, η οποία είναι παντρεμένη με τον πρόεδρο της Μουσουλμανικής Ενωσης Ελλάδος κ. Ν. Ελγαντούρ και μητέρα δύο παιδιών, είναι υπεύθυνη μάρκετινγκ και δημοσίων σχέσεων στον εν λόγω φορέα. «Παλαιότερα διατηρούσα και γραφείο για τους νέους μουσουλμάνους, ενώ έχω μεταφράσει από τα αγγλικά βιβλία σχετικά με το Ισλάμ» λέει. Ωστόσο για πολλά χρόνια η κύρια ενασχόλησή της ήταν οικογενειακή της επιχείρηση, δηλαδή η παλιά βιοτεχνία αθλητικών ρούχων που διατηρούσαν οι γονείς της, η οποία ανέστειλε τη λειτουργία της με την οικονομική κρίση.

«Η μαντίλα είναι θέμα επιλογής»

Το θέμα της μαντίλας αποτελεί σοβαρό ζήτημα για αρκετές χώρες,όμως για την κυρία Στάμου τα πράγματα είναι απλά.«Η μαντίλα είναι κομμάτι της πίστης,το οποίο αν θέλεις ακολουθείς και αν θέλεις όχι.Είναι δική σου επιλογή»τονίζει.Ωστόσο, όπως επισημαίνει,δεν έχει μόνο κοινωνική υπόσταση,καθώς όποιος το αναζητήσει εσωτερικά, θα βρει και άλλα πράγματα.«Το μαντίλι είναι θέμα επιλογής.Ομως,όπου το επιβάλλουν,κακώς το κάνουν.Βέβαια,κατά την άποψή μου,όταν το “πασάρουν” σαν σύμβολο καταπίεσης,αυτό είναι λάθος.Εχω δει γυναίκες που παλεύουν για το δικαίωμά τους να το φοράνε»σημειώνει.

Η κυρία Στάμου μιλάει με ικανοποίηση για τη βράβευσή της.«Ηταν 10 βραβεία,όλα τους ισάξια. Εμένα μού απενεμήθη λόγω της δράσης μου στη Μουσουλμανική Ενωση για τη διεκδίκηση του νεκροταφείου και του τεμένους,αλλά και για τη θετική συνεισφορά μου.Το Ευρωπαϊκό Δίκτυο Μουσουλμάνων Επιχειρηματιών (CΕDΑR) προωθεί την εκπαίδευση,την πρόοδο,την επιχειρηματικότητα,τη δημιουργία,την τέχνη,την επιστήμη.

Δεν πρόκειται για θρησκευτικό ίδρυμα»τονίζει.

Οπως λέει,το βασικότερο όλων είναι η ειρηνική συμβίωση και η ανοχή.«Στο Ραμαζάνι τρώμε μαζί με φίλους μας χριστιανούς,και αυτό είναι κάτι που δεν το συναντάς εύκολα στην Ευρώπη.Επίσηςη κόρη μου τρελαίνεται και αδημονεί για τα Χριστούγεννα.Ετσι διαρκούν περίπου ως…το Πάσχα!» καταλήγει.

Yesterday’s public player that was performed by at least 13.000 Muslims in twelve different points of Attica was unprecedented for what is usually happening in the capital. This public manifestation worked as triggering event for the development of a Mosque in Athens but as well as the expected social reactions.

The prayer, which was performed due to the occasion of celebrating the first day of the Muslim feast Eid-Al-Adha (equivalent to the sacrifice of Abraham) started at 7:40 in the morning and lasted approximately three hours. As the Greek Police stated, the Muslims’ manifestations were attended by 4.000 people at Aigaleo, 2.000 at Kiprou str.  at Moschato, 500 at Propilea were the prayer took place under the initiative of the Muslim Association of Greece, 600 at Attica square, 1.000 in the old Racetrack Court in Faliro, 1.000 at Karamanlis Avenue at Menidi, 300 at the in the basketball court of Elefsina, 250 at Aspropirgos and 1.000 in the court of Ierotheos at Peristeri.

All the manifestations took place peacefully, with the exception though of Attica square. There, a group of habitants attacked with eggs and with other objects against the offhand prayer site, though other habitants had placed on their balconies Greek flags, they put loud music inorder to interrupt the process of the prayer.

The Request for an Official Prayer Site

Yesterday’s prayer was the third one that took place in a public place, (previously it had been performed in Kotzia square and in Olympic stadium) but it was the most impressive. The representatives of the Muslims referred again on their claim for the development of an official prayer site. Mr. K. Aivaliotis representative of LAOS’s party stated that this is a “demonstration of power in Athens by African Muslims.”

 “In the times we live in, it is imposed, in the civilisation we claim we are having and which governs our society, and it is a duty of the Greek state, to facilitate each person who wants to perform his religious duties” the Government’s representative, G. Petalotis, highlighting that “there is a legal commitment made to create a Mosque in Athens, in order for our fellow Muslim citizens to perform with safety and liberty their religious rights.”

 “Athens needs many , small sized religious prayer sites for the immigrants”, the journalist Stavros Theodorakakis claimed yesterday while on air on the radio station Flash, who due to his show for the flux of immigrants in Greece through the land borders( it will be presented next Sunday) , he stayed  for a few days in Evros.

 “ The loops that originate from Turkey, meaning the slavers and the traffickers have realised that practically the Greek Authorities have no practical means to oppose against the flux of unarmed immigrants” Mr.Theodorakis stated, though Mr. Salamagkas, police officer of Orestiada , referred, participating in the same show , that the Authorities after the capture of the immigrants and their identification, they release all those who cannot be deported (such as Palestinians or  Afghanis for whom there are specific international treaties about their immunity.) They are given a piece a paper referring that they should leave the country within thirty days  and they leave them free outside the detention centres where they are temporarily located. There usually there is a coach awaiting them who transports them in Athens.

Mr. Panos Mpeglitis, answering a relevant question that was submitted by the deputy of LAOS party, Mr. Adonis Georgiadis, in the Greek Parliament, strongly assured that the foundation of the Mosque in Votanicos, will be done with expenses of the Greek State and its operation will be completely regulated by the Greek Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, though, the land acres will be granted only to satisfy the needs of the Mosque itself.

The surrogate Minister of Defence accused Mr. Adonis Georgiadis for “extreme xenophobic motives that serve suspenseful needs within his political party”

The LAOS deputy argued that the ownership of the land acres is handed over with “obvious dangers for the National Security” referring as well to the recent statement of Angela Merkel of failure of German society’s multicultural model, as well as to the French law of banishing the hijab.

Additionally, he pointed out that in one hand the allocation of land acres to the Monastery of Vatopedion is characterised as scandal, though for the government it is not considered a scandal that land acres of the Hellenic Navy are donated for the needs of the Muslims.

From his side, the surrogate Minister of Defence answered him that Athens is the only European capital that a Mosque is inexistent and this constitutes a serious deficit of democracy.

In parallel, he strongly highlighted that nobody is given ownership titles of the land acres, though the land in Votanicos is allocated only for use, referring as well to the law that was voted by the previous government of Nea Dimocratia, so to get the following answer from LAOS deputy that “if Mr.Pavlopoulos had acted as Rightist, Nea Dimocratia would not be at such a condition”

Mr. Adonis Georgiadis though, clarified that the right of secularism is not questioned but the LAOS party disagrees with the development of a giant Mosque with minarets that will have a monumental character, something that is not happening in other countries.

Benaki museum (celebrating its eighty years of artistic richness) exhibits the paintings of Theofilos. It is an issue for experts whether Theofilos was as great as regarded by many or not. Either way he was important to everyone. That is for his compositions, colors, themes and I would add his optimistic poetic objectivity.

The exhibition includes a number of paintings, all of them depicting Greek cities of the 30s. Distinctly, one may observe the churches and their bell towers. Only that? No! We may also observe the mosques and their minarets.

And now, we are discussing with hundreds of thousands of native or immigrant Muslims, for ONE mosque. With or without a minaret?

With the exception of Thrace, the majority of those old mosques are demolished by some, starting from the minarets, (the city of Rethymnon is among the few exceptions of respect to the past).
Some others have “utilized” mosques, turning some of them (such as the mosque of the central square of Nauplion) into cinemas. Isn’t that a reminder of the occupied part of Cyprus?

Recently, in Athens, thousands of Muslims, very few of them related to the Turkish-speaking minority, gathered to celebrate Ramadan at the square of National Resistance across town hall. As if they were homeless. The incredible mayor (with lower “m”) almost demanded the award of respect for human rights, as a return of granting his permission. What if he didn’t, would armed forces have intervened?
What about the Turks? At first, let us remind that gradually (but rather slowly) the situation is getting better for minorities and among them the Christians. However, it should be underlined that our state should adhere the freedoms of our own constitution and that cannot be a subject of our bilateral relations. That is a matter of principal of our respect of the European values of freedom and equality.

However, issues of worship is only one part of the subject matter, the other is politics. For example, at this moment, in both Ankara and Athens there is an ongoing reevaluation of “defensive dogmas”. In Ankara, they start putting aside the like of neighbor-enemies.

Here, with a 20-year delay we are facing the possibility (they say) of abolishing any “threats from the North”, totally focusing on the East instead. The Turks, semi-officially proposed, the mutual reduction of armament. In the midst of drowning, we are seeking to invest in more arms and an alliance with Israel. Without even asking our neighbors, since you propose, come and let’s discuss if you seriously mean it…

When everything changes, why don’t we change our minds?

The last summer I visited Greece was in 1999. That time I was already reading about Islam and did a lot of thinking. When I came back to Holland I decided to convert to Islam. And after a few months I started to wear the veil, hijab.

I lost contact with my family for almost two years. When I had my first child the contact slowly became better.

My parents always told me that it was not possible to go back to Greece with my hijab. And my biggest problem was that I don’t speak Greek.

My father is from Greece (Korinthos) and my mother is from Holland. I was born and raised in Holland but we traveled to Greece every year in the summer. I think that it is really important that you can explain to the people in their language why you dress that way.

A few months ago we had a conference in Holland and then I met Anna, a Greek Muslim sister. I was so happy and I even took her to my mother’s house to show her that there are Muslims in Greece. My mother was very surprised.

A few months later, they had a meeting in Greece for the Muslims Association of Greece. My parents and sisters were all in Greece and Anna told me that I had to come. And I told my parents I had plans to come and they said that I was welcome. So I booked my ticket and finally after 11 years I came back to Greece.

I was very nervous but also very excited.

The first two days I spent at the conference in Athens meeting other Greek Muslims, alhamdulillah! I had a very nice time.

And I thought that everybody would look at me in a bad way but they did not even care. 

Then I met my family in Ancient Korinthos. I was very, very nervous about the reactions. When I arrived some friends of my parents were waiting for me. They were very happy to see me and one friend of my father asked if I came from dancing because of my clothes. So my mother told him that it is a new fashion. I spoke to some relatives and nobody said crazy things.

I noticed that most of them speak English, so thank God, that was very nice. I didn’t really have the chance to tell them something about Islam because I was there only one day and my parents wanted to show me everything. They were so happy that I came.

I had a great time. And, God willing, next year I will go back to Greece with my husband and kids.

I spent my last day in the island of Andros. It was very beautiful and I even swam in the sea.  Also the people there were very nice and I did not feel left out or something.

In Holland, people look at you in a different way, but I think that it is because of the negative media attention. So most people in Holland see Islam in a bad way and they feel threatened by veils and beards and long dresses. In Greece I felt very relaxed.

I had a great experience and I will go back again for holiday, God willing!

 

Oδός Αρκαδίου. Ενας μικρός δρόμος στην Ηλιούπολη. Σχεδόν στην αρχή του μια συνηθισμένη διώροφη κατοικία, ανάμεσα σε άλλες μονοκατοικίες. Τίποτε ψηλότερο από τρεις ορόφους. Ολα θυμίζουν μια κλασική γειτονιά της Αθήνας, από αυτές που δεν έχουν φθάσει ο θόρυβος και η… ανάπτυξη. Κάτι, παρ΄ όλα αυτά, έχει αλλάξει. Λίγο πριν δύσει ο ήλιος… Στην εξώπορτα του διαμερίσματος του πρώτου ορόφου αραδιασμένα παπούτσια στη σειρά, ανδρικά, γυναικεία, παιδικά. Το σπίτι είναι μουσουλμανικό. Και χθες για τους μουσουλμάνους ήταν μεγάλη ημέρα. Η πρώτη ημέρα του Ραμαζανιού, της μεγάλης νηστείας των μουσουλμάνων, που αρχίζει την πρώτη ημέρα του νέου σεληνιακού έτους και διαρκεί 30 ημέρες. Ούτε φαΐ ούτε νερό ούτε καν τσιγάρο και τσίχλα δεν πρέπει να μπει στο στόμα τους όσο ο ήλιος βρίσκεται στον ουρανό. Μετά η οικογένεια θα προσευχηθεί και θα καθήσει στο τραπέζι- άλλοτε και όλοι μαζί οι πιστοί στο τζαμί- για φαγητό. Αλλά μόνον αφού δύσει ο ήλιος… «Το θέμα είναι να καταλάβεις εκείνες τις ημέρες ότι κάτι σου λείπει, κάτι στερείσαι, να έχει δηλαδή η νηστεία ουσία» εξηγεί ο κ. Ναΐμ Ελγαντούρ , πρόεδρος της Μουσουλμανικής Ενωσης Ελλάδας, που, όπως οι περισσότεροι μουσουλμάνοι, πέρασε το πρώτο βράδυ της εξαντλητικής νηστείας στο σπίτι για να καθήσει στο τραπέζι με την οικογένεια και τους στενούς φίλους του. Λίγο μετά τις 8 βρίσκονταν όλοι στο σπίτι, ο Ναΐμ, η γυναίκα του, τα δυο τους παιδιά, ο αντιπρόεδρος της Ενωσης, κ. Μάζεν Ρασσά, και ο ιμάμης. Στις 8.30 ακριβώς χτύπησε το ρολόι, που βρίσκεται στη βιβλιοθήκη του σαλονιού. Είναι ρυθμισμένο να χτυπά πέντε φορές την ημέρα υπενθυμίζοντας τις ώρες της προσευχής, αφού εδώ δεν υπάρχει ούτε μιναρές ούτε μουεζίνης για να καλέσει τους πιστούς. Στο σπίτι κατά τα μουσουλμανικά ήθη υπεύθυνος να κατευθύνει την προσευχή είναι ο οικοδεσπότης, και μόνον εάν δώσει την άδειά του μπορεί να αναλάβει ο ιμάμης. Η ώρα για το φαγητό έχει φθάσει. Ενα ποτηράκι γάλα με χουρμάδες είναι το πρώτο βήμα, που δείχνει ότι η νηστεία έχει ολοκληρώσει τον ημερήσιο κύκλο της. Από εκεί και πέρα δεν υπάρχει περιορισμός στο διαιτολόγιο και στα πιάτα που σερβίρονται, εκτός βέβαια από τη… γενική απαγόρευση κατανάλωσης χοιρινού κρέατος. Στο τραπέζι του Ναΐμ σερβιρίστηκε σούπα φτιαγμένη από ζωμό μοσχαριού, με κρέας και πατάτες, πιάτο που συνήθως τρώγεται πρώτο για να μαλακώσει το στομάχι από την ολοήμερη αποχή από το φαγητό. Υστερα το τραπέζι γεμίζει πιάτα. Παστίτσιο, «ψεύτικο», όπως το λένε, καθώς δεν υπάρχει κιμάς, ρύζι μαγειρεμένο με ανατολίτικη συνταγή, μοσχάρι με ντομάτα, πατάτες και κρεμμύδια στον φούρνο, και κάθε είδους μεζές.

«Δεν νηστεύεις μόνο στα υλικά πράγματα» εξηγεί η σύζυγος του Ναΐμ, κυρία Αννα Στάμου. «Νηστεύεις και στις άσχημες εκφράσεις και στις άσχημες πράξεις. Και πρέπει να ξέρει ο κόσμος ότι η νηστεία του Ραμαζανιού κάνει καλό και στην υγεία, κι αυτό είναι ιατρικά αποδεδειγμένο. Ο οργανισμός αποτοξινώνεται. Τις πρώτες ημέρες βέβαια αισθανόμαστε καταβεβλημένοι, μετά όμως, όταν το συνηθίζουμε, έχουμε πολλή ενέργεια μέσα μας. Βλέπεις ανθρώπους μουσουλμάνους να πηγαίνουν κανονικά στη δουλειά τους και μετά να πηγαίνουν για ποδόσφαιρο ή οτιδήποτε».

Κ αι όλα αυτά, χωρίς καν νερό στη διάρκεια της ημέρας. «Φανταστείτε ότι στις χώρες μας έχει πολύ περισσότερη ζέστη, και παρ΄ όλα αυτά τηρούν τη νηστεία. Σίγουρα είναι δύσκολα αλλά, αφού είμαστε υποχρεωμένοι, πρέπει να το κάνουμε» τονίζει ο κ. Ρασσά ομολογώντας: «Είναι μια δοκιμασία». Και δεν είναι η μόνη. Μετά το βραδινό φαγητό ακολουθεί πάντα η τελευταία προσευχή της ημέρας. Αλλά την περίοδο του Ραμαζανιού προστίθεται ακόμη μια προσευχή, που κρατά μάλιστα μία ολόκληρη ώρα. Αυτή δεν γίνεται ποτέ κατ΄ οίκον. Ολοι οι μουσουλμάνοι μαζεύονται σε έναν τόπο προσευχής για να την κάνουν. Στην Αθήνα ως σήμερα τζαμί δεν υπάρχει, οπότε οι μουσουλμάνοι του κέντρου συγκεντρώθηκαν προχθές τη νύχτα, όπως πάντα τέτοια ημέρα, στο γκαράζ που έχει νοικιάσει ο κ. Ρασσά στον Νέο Κόσμο.

Το ρολόι που σημαίνει τις ώρες της προσευχής δεν μετρά και τον κύκλο της Σελήνης. Αν συνέβαινε αυτό θα αφαιρούσε περίπου 600 χρόνια από το σήμερα, καθώς ειδικά στο θέμα της νηστείας οι μουσουλμάνοι ακολουθούν τη σεληνιακή μέτρηση του έτους. Ετσι στον δικό τους χωροχρόνο της θρησκευτικής ζωής διανύεται το έτος 1430. Το Ραμαζάνι συμπίπτει και εορτάζεται στην αρχή κάθε σεληνιακού έτους. Γι΄ αυτό και με βάση το χριστιανικό ημερολόγιο έρχεται κάθε χρόνο δέκα ημέρες νωρίτερα. Η νηστεία διαρκεί έναν μήνα, κάθε ημέρα, από την ανατολή έως και τη δύση του ηλίου. Και, όπως λένε οι μουσουλμάνοι, το πρότυπο της νηστείας ακολουθεί πιστά τις επιταγές του προφήτη Μωάμεθ.

Προσευχή σε αυτοσχέδιο τζαμί

Η καθιερωμένη προσευχή πριν από το βραδινό γεύμα με πρώτο τον οικοδεσπότη Ναΐμ Ελγαντούρ Ο κ. Ελγαντούρείναι επιχειρηματίας και ζει στην Ελλάδα από το 1972. Αιγύπτιος παντρεμένος με Ελληνίδα, ζουν με τα δυο τους παιδιά στην Ηλιούπολη και χθες, πρώτη ημέρα του Ραμαζανιού, ήθελε να φάνε στο σπίτι οικογενειακώς. Στο αυτοσχέδιο τζαμί (ένα γκαράζ στον Νέο Κόσμο) για να συναντήσουν τους φίλους τους, τους άλλους πιστούς μουσουλμάνους και να προσευχηθούν όλοι μαζί, όπως πάντα τέτοια ημέρα, πήγαν μετά.

Οταν πρωτοήρθε στη χώρα ο κ. Ελγαντούρ δούλεψε ως ναυτικός, αργότερα άνοιξε δικό του αραβικό εστιατόριο και σήμερα ασχολείται με το εμπόριο θαλασσινών. «Στο Πορτ Σάιντ,στην πόλη όπου έμενα στην Αίγυπτο,είχαμε πολλούς Ελληνες.Είχα έρθει σε επαφή μαζί τους, τους είχα συμπαθήσει ως λαό. Οταν, λοιπόν, μου δόθηκε η δυνατότητα να φύγω προτίμησα την Ελλάδα.Θα μπορούσα να είχα πάει στην Αμερική, στην Αγγλία, οπουδήποτε αλλού» λέει σήμερα. Τώρα πια έχει έναν ακόμη λόγο που δεν μετάνιωσε για την επιλογή του.

Η γυναίκα του, η κυρία Στάμου, είναι Ελληνίδατη γνώρισε όταν ήρθε στη χώρα μας. Ασπάστηκε μάλιστα το Ισλάμ δύο χρόνια αφότου παντρεύτηκε τον Ναΐμ. «Μελετούσα τις θρησκείες προτού γνωρίσω τον Ναΐμ,όχι επειδή το σπούδαζα,αλλά επειδή μου άρεσε. Ηξερα ότι κάποια στιγμή θα κατέληγα μουσουλμάνα» λέει προσθέτοντας ότι είναι δασκάλα της γιόγκα, επάγγελμα που πλέον δεν εξασκεί λόγω των οικογενειακών υποχρεώσεων, της ανατροφής των δύο μικρών παιδιών που έχουν με τον Ναΐμ, του Ισμαήλ και της Ιμάν. Παράλληλα ασχολείται κι αυτή ενεργά με την Ενωση, συμμετέχει μάλιστα και στο Διοικητικό της Συμβούλιο, υπεύθυνη για τα θέματα μάρκετινγκ.

11 Other-than-Dieting ways to look and feel beautiful

I’m listening to this lecture above and it’s rather unique.  You think it would be about dieting but the shaikh brings up ahadith that are rarely known to the masses but wise about looking beautiful.  He also backs up the tips with practical tools and advice on how to look and feel beautiful.  And no, this is not just for people who are looking to get married but also for after the marriage.

Here are two ahadith about your hair.  Have you heard of them?

Allah’s messenger (saws) said,

“Never come with your hair and beard disheveled like a devil.”

“Whoever has hair should honour it.”

How many brothers do we see with long straggly beards without proper maintenance?   Ok, just to be fair, I have seen some brothers that do a good job.
